The distillery is known for Storica, made from pomace sourced from over 300 Friuli wineries, and for a portfolio that includes Storica Nera, Secolo, Cividât, Ginrose, and Storica Amaro. Domenis’s role is not only to protect the method. It is to keep each expression clear enough that the family name does not blur as the range widens. Her own line on the work is direct: “We need simple and straightforward communication, especially in the design of the product.” At the bench-side of production, that means clarity before ornament, and identity before decoration.

Clarity as a production method

Domenis works where production and presentation meet. The distillery’s stated philosophy is organic, its scale small, and its focus fixed on spirits with a clear house identity rather than excess styling. Refosco, Ribolla Gialla, Schioppettino, Prosecco, Verduzzo, Picolit, Chardonnay, Moscato, Sauvignon, Cabernet, Malvasia, and Merlot sit within the wider Friuli frame named by the house, but grappa begins with what remains after pressing, not with the romance of a vineyard label. That is the discipline of pomace. The ancient distillation methods associated with Domenis 1898 give Storica its place in the house, while the broader range asks for another kind of control: each label, each name, each liquid has to read as its own thing without leaving the family method. Cristina Domenis’s production work holds those pressures together. She does not need a louder language for it. The bottle has to make the distinction plainly.

A room left close to the work

The distillery is traditional and not refurbished, set in an industrial pocket of Cividale del Friuli with the Friuli landscape around it. Inside, the atmosphere stays quiet and close to the craft. Guided tastings carry the visitor through the work in detail, but the room does not seem arranged to soften the still house into theatre. It keeps an intensity that suits distillation: vessels, materials, labels, and the afterlife of grapes brought back into focus. The tasting room belongs to that same restraint. Rustic here is not a costume. It is the condition of a place that has allowed its surfaces to remain near the method, where Storica can be understood as a product of the still house rather than a souvenir of it.
