Greg Graziano keeps separation in mind as Winemaker at Graziano Family of Wines in Redwood Valley, letting each bottling hold its own shape. He has a plain way of putting the house discipline: “I think the wines have a good family resemblance but they're different.” That sentence is not a tasting-room flourish. It is a working position for a cellar built around Classic Italian and unique Old World varietals, where recognition matters, but sameness would flatten the point.

Greg Graziano came to this work through technical schooling at Cabrillo College and the University of California at Davis, then through Mendocino County practice with a long memory. His record reaches to Milano in 1976, and to Domaine Saint Gregory in 1988. Ownership of Graziano Family of Wines gathers those decades under one house, with the bench now turned toward varietal attention, regional identity, and a family line that dates to 1918. The lineage here is not presented as costume. It sits in the choice of grapes, in the patience required to keep them distinct, and in the refusal to make one cellar voice cover every wine.

Italian varieties, Redwood Valley soils

The program runs through Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Sangiovese, and Pinot Grigio, with still red, still white, and sparkling wines inside the frame. Redwood Valley AVA gives the work its named ground, including the rust-colored soils associated with the estate’s hillside vineyards. The house is small family production rather than an industrial scale cellar, and its emphasis falls on rare Italian varietals and old-vine Zinfandel, not on a single fashionable lane.

Graziano’s named range gives a sense of the spread: Coro Mendocino, 1997 Enotria Dolcetto, sauvignon blanc, and 2019 Zinfandel. Read together, they move across appellation identity, Italian reference, white wine, and Zinfandel. The method published by the house is less a list of cellar tricks than a governing discipline. Family resemblance points to a shared hand. Difference asks each variety to keep its own edges.

The cellar beside the hillside

The place itself is described in quieter terms: a picturesque historic estate in Redwood Valley hillside vineyards, rustic rather than polished flat. The room belongs to a classic family winery atmosphere, with old-world winemaking traditions close to the tasting experience and barrel tasting part of the way guests meet the work. The setting is scenic, and the cellar keeps its relationship to the hills around it. The wines are not presented away from their ground.

In that quiet, the counter and the cellar do not need much theatre. A bottle of Barbera can sit beside Zinfandel without being asked to become it. That is the house grammar Graziano names when he speaks of resemblance and difference, and it remains clearest in the 2019 Zinfandel.
