Mauritson came to the trade with a degree from the University of Oregon, then worked inside the regional wine community as Vice President at Sonoma County Vintners. At Mauritson Wines, that experience narrows rather than widens the frame. Rockpile Zinfandel is the address most closely associated with the winery, and the naming is part of the method. It asks the drinker to consider appellation before ornament. Dry Creek Zinfandel does the same from another register, keeping the wine tied to place rather than to a winemaker’s flourish. Mauritson’s discipline sits in that restraint: a family-owned winery using a focused set of varietals to return, again and again, to Zinfandel and to the mountain-influenced ground that shapes it.
