Tacos 1986

Chef Jorge Alvarez-Tostado is the co-founder and co-owner of Tacos 1986, which he has held since 2018. The restaurant was founded with Victor Delgado.

The menu is built around Tijuana-style tacos on fresh made-to-order corn tortillas. The core fillings are Carne Asada, Pollo Asado, Adobada, and Mushroom, also called hongos.

The mushroom taco brought Alvarez-Tostado a named recognition when the Los Angeles Times included it among the 15 Best Dishes of 2019. It is a seared vegan mushroom filling served with salsa macha.

The kitchen also makes mulitas, vampiros, quesadillas, and the Perrón, an off-menu item with flour tortilla, melted cheese, carne asada, pinto beans, and guacamole. The salsas include green tomatillo, chipotle adobada, and El Joy’s salsa macha.
