Coming Up
Wine work rewards people who can move from line cook discipline to cellar patience, and Alberto Rodriguez arrived with both. The Culinary Institute of America gave him the formal base; Patz & Hall (2012–2017) gave him assistant winemaking responsibilities; Hyde family (2012–2017) gave him small lot production. Across those years, the work was less about flash than about repeatable decisions, careful observation, and learning how a vintage shows itself in stages. Since 2017, as winemaker of Hyde Estate team and the person overseeing all wine production of Hyde Vineyard Estate Winery, Rodriguez has carried that training into a role that depends on precision under changing conditions.
Where They Are Now
Overseeing all wine production at Hyde Vineyard Estate Winery puts Rodriguez at the center of the cellar’s daily logic. The job sits where fermentation, texture, and balance are decided, and where small choices accumulate into the finished wine. That kind of responsibility is broad on paper, but in practice it is a hands-on discipline built from timing, repetition, and close attention to what each lot is doing.
Signature
Rodriguez’s named wines include Hyde Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir and 2014 Larry Hyde Vineyard Estate, Chardonnay, Los Carneros 12x75cl. Put side by side, they show two different expressions of cellar judgment: Pinot Noir in one register, Chardonnay in another, each asking for a different handling of structure, texture, and balance. The point is not volume or display, but detail—the kind of work that reads clearly in the glass.
In Their Words “Now that I’m in the industry, we’re still sharing stories—winemaking processes, vintages and how Mother Nature can make life wonderful … or challenging.” That is the working reality of wine: technique is always in conversation with the season. Process matters, but so does what the harvest gives back, and the best cellar habits are built around that constant exchange between method and weather. “Soon enough, we were sharing bottles and stories, trying new varieties and pairing wine with lunches and dinners.” Wine often enters the trade through the simplest rituals: opening bottles, comparing notes, and pairing them with food. The practice is social, but it is also technical, because tasting across meals and varieties teaches what a wine does at the table.
