At Villicana Winery, the founder and winemaker roles have been joined since 1993, and Alex Villicana has used that span to shape the estate around a consistent set of instincts and standards. The years matter here because they mark sustained production, not a brief assignment. In Paso Robles, the value is in that kind of continuity: harvest after harvest, a winery can take on the character of the person making it when the work stays that direct and that long.

The Work Today

The current work still sits inside the practical problems of winemaking, and Alex Villicana has described one of them plainly: “Every harvest, I would rack my brain to find another viable use for my saignée.” The line is useful because it shows the pressure points of the cellar without dressing them up. It is about use, waste, and the pressure to keep materials moving toward something useful. In another remark—“It drove me crazy to throw away 30 percent of my wine.”—the same concern comes into focus: a refusal to accept waste as normal, and a habit of meeting that frustration with more work.

Signature

Alex's signature wines include Re:find Handcrafted Vodka, Re:Find Handcrafted Gin, limoncello, cucumber vodka, and rye whiskey. The range points to a maker working across categories with the same craft attention, where precision and flavor carry from one expression to the next.
