Career Carolin Spanier-Gillot has been winemaker at Weingut Kühling-Gillot in Bodenheim since 2006, and the estate has been in her hands since that same year. That pairing of cellar work and estate responsibility sets the terms of the job: she is both making the wine and guiding the property behind it.

At the center of Carolin Spanier-Gillot’s approach is what she calls Origin Excellence, a way of working that treats the vineyard as the source of a wine’s identity rather than a scenic frame around it. Her own phrasing is direct: “We feel that we are stone wine producers. That means we try to bring the stone on which the vine has grown into the bottle.” Read as craft language, it points to texture, structure, and mineral imprint, with the site carried through rather than simply described. Since 2006, she has been both estate leader and winemaker at Weingut Kühling-Gillot, and that dual role gives the work a firm axis.
