Daniel Cathiard

Daniel Cathiard was a French entrepreneur and former ski champion who, with his wife Florence, acquired Château Smith Haut Lafitte in 1990 and later helped transform it into a leading Pessac-Léognan estate in Bordeaux. He also became co-owner of Cathiard Vineyard in Napa Valley, extending the family wine project to California. He died on January 28, 2026, at age 81, after more than three decades overseeing the Bordeaux property.
