i. Biography
Architectural training is part of the craft here: Diego Spinoglio moved from Uruguay’s grapevines into architecture, then back to Bodega Spinoglio in Montevideo, Uruguay, to take up winemaking for the family name. After a four-year break to study architecture, the fourth generation returned to vineyard rows, wine production, and the accumulated weight of a family trade.
The Path
Reading structure first through architecture, Diego Spinoglio carried that discipline into wine. Line, proportion, and construction do not disappear when the work shifts from buildings to cellar decisions; they become another way of shaping the result. At Bodega Spinoglio, the winemaker’s role is defined by precision and creative instinct. With Diego Spinoglio in the cellar, the work stays close to heritage while still allowing room for design-led judgment in each choice.
The Work Today
Production and international tastings are the two poles of the work today, linking Bodega Spinoglio’s vineyard output in Uruguay to audiences beyond it. That balance keeps the operation rooted while giving the wines a wider point of contact. Several bottles give that work its clearest form. Tonel X Corte Único has been described in visitor reviews as a unique blend that was striking and memorable, the kind of wine that leaves a clear afterimage. Tannat sin barrica was singled out by a visitor as especially recommended, as was Chardonnay Diego Spinoglio. The limited-batch wines sharpen the house signature further. Diego Spinoglio TINAJA is a limited-batch wine crafted by Spinoglio, while ESTIBA RESERVADA TANNAT 2018 is listed among the limited-batch signature wines crafted by him. Together, those names point to a producer working across family continuity, varietal expression, and small-production releases, each bottle carrying a distinct note within the broader house style.
Signature
Diego's signature wines include ESTIBA RESERVADA TANNAT 2018, ESTIBA RESERVADA BLEND, Diego Spinoglio TINAJA, and Diego Spinoglio CHARDONNAY.
Acclaim
Recognition around the wines appears in two forms: the formal route of international tastings and the more immediate response of visitors who remember specific bottles. Tonel X Corte Único earned notice from guests for its singular blend and memorable impression, while Tannat sin barrica and Chardonnay Diego Spinoglio drew direct recommendations. The limited-batch Tannat adds a specific point in the record. For Diego Spinoglio, whose path began outside the winery, the acclaim attaches less to biography than to named wines: a corte único, a tannat without barrel, a chardonnay carrying his name, and small-batch bottlings made under his hand.
