Winemaking is the science of art and the art of science, and Don Pullum’s work is built on that balance. The discipline asks for measurement, judgment, and timing in equal measure, and his career has moved through those demands with a steady hand. Before wine, he worked as a paperboy, banker, and venture capitalist, a sequence that suggests practical training in pace, risk, and patience. From 2004, he served as commercial winemaker at Sandstone Cellars Winery in Mason, Texas, then became winemaker at Pontotoc Vineyard in Pontotoc, Texas, and later a winemaker/consultant at Torre di Pietra Vineyards and Fly Gap Winery. Each step keeps the focus on what the site allows, what the vintage gives, and what the winemaker can shape without forcing the material.

Today

So we drink from Mason jars. The line is plain, and it fits the work. Pullum’s approach reads as practical rather than theatrical: precision over flourish, method over display, and a clear respect for the grapes, the site, and the season. As a commercial winemaker and winemaking consultant, Don Pullum works in the space where technical knowledge has to become usable wine, something that can be poured, shared, and understood without strain.

Signature

Don's signature wines include 2014 Estate Tempranillo, 2006 Sandstone Cellars III, Mason County, TX, 2005 Sandstone Cellars II, and 2011 Pontotoc Vineyard 100% Estate Tempranillo. The list shows range without breaking from continuity: year, place, and label stay specific, and the naming keeps the structure visible. Estate, vineyard, county, and vintage all do work here, marking wine as the result of many decisions arriving together.
