Training at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism gave Doug Tunnell a reporting foundation built on discipline, speed, and attention to detail. As a freelance journalist at Self-employed in Beirut, Middle East; Saudi Arabia, that discipline met the conditions of work done far from home, where proximity to events and the pressure of deadline shape the craft. He later served as a foreign correspondent at CBS News in Overseas; Miami (last assignment), a position that demanded accuracy under time constraints. That background now reads into Brick House Vineyards and Brick House Vineyards and Wine Co, where Doug Tunnell works as founder, owner, founding winemaker, and owner, and where the pace shifts from dispatch to vineyard, fruit, and season.

Where They Are Now

In Newberg, Oregon. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gamay Noir define the practical frame of the work. Doug Tunnell’s wines at Brick House are built around those varieties, each with a different structural role in the cellar and on the estate. Pinot Noir carries subtle depth, Chardonnay brings brightness and contour, and Gamay Noir adds vivid, supple energy; together, they set the tone for the house style.
