i. Biography
Cellar work is where Georg Rumpf’s craft is measured twice: first in the vineyard, then again in the cellar. At Weingut Kruger-Rumpf in Münster-Sarmsheim, Germany, the cellarmaster’s job moves between field decisions and cellar scrutiny, with Riesling as the defining specialty and the line running through the work. Stewardship and precision sit together here; in Georg Rumpf’s hands, they are part of the same discipline.
The Essentials Since 1708, the family vineyards at the estate have continued to supply the grapes for its best wines. For Georg Rumpf, that kind of continuity is a working fact, not a slogan. The estate’s style is set out in direct terms: “We distinguish ourselves through stringency and clarity in the quality and styles of our wines.” The emphasis is on definition rather than display, on wines that are built to be clear in shape and intent. In that framework, the cellar asks for disciplined choices all the way through, from vineyard work to the final decisions before bottling. Hospitality is part of the same system. For more than 20 years, the estate has been the only VDP.Estate on the Nahe to operate its own wine tavern, serving refined regional dishes. That makes the connection between production and table unusually direct: what is grown, what is made, and what is served all sit under the same house approach. The result is an estate defined by longevity, clarity and place.
In Their Words “Since 1708, our family has been cultivating vineyards that still produce the grapes for our best wines today.”
