i. Biography
Giorgio Flessati works in viticulture at Mayu in the Elqui Valley, Chile, where the job is defined by restraint, reading, and timing. Born in Trento, Italy, and from a long line of viticulturists, he brings a lineage-based understanding of the vineyard: inherited practice, then sharpened in one of the more exacting growing environments.
The Climb
Training at San Michele all’Adige gave Giorgio Flessati a technical base built on precision and vineyard discipline. Since 2004, he has been viticulturist of Mayu, a role centered on the day-to-day rhythm of the vines and the demands of Elqui’s conditions. He also serves as General Manager and Chief Winemaker of Lagaria, extending that same field discipline into broader wine decisions, from vineyard management to the final shape of the bottle.
Today
Giorgio Flessati’s view of Elqui’s water situation is straightforward: “In Elqui right now we don't have immediate problems and we have irrigated carefully.” The line points to the working reality of the valley: dry conditions managed through careful irrigation, not rhetoric. In that setting, vigilance is part of the craft, and the work depends on measured decisions rather than improvisation.
Signature
Giorgio Flessati’s signature wines include Viña Mayu Pedro Ximenez, Titon Vineyard Syrah Gran Reserva, and Carmenere Reserva Pedriscal Single Vineyard 2019. Taken together, they show a working range anchored in place, varietal character, and vineyard definition. The emphasis is on close attention and consistency, with each wine carrying the discipline of its site and its making.
In Their Words “In Elqui right now we don't have immediate problems and we have irrigated carefully.”
Recognition
Giorgio Flessati earned 95 points for Mayu, Titon Vineyard Syrah Gran Reserva at the Decanter World Wine Awards (2022). The score marks the level reached by his work at Mayu, and reflects the standard demanded by vineyard-led wine in a place like Elqui. It sits naturally within a career shaped by family inheritance, technical training, and a measured response to place.
