At Achaval Ferrer in Mendoza, Argentina, the work under Gustavo Rearte starts in the vineyard and stays tied to conditions outside the cellar. Weather, season, and fruit response set the terms before any winemaking decision is made. As Rearte puts it, climate changes alter the work year after year, and grape production for the wines is part of that pressure. The result is a practice shaped less by fixed formula than by close reading of what each vintage allows. Rearte trained at Universidad Juan Agustín Maza, where the technical base for his work was built. Since 2013, he has served as Director Técnico de Enología at Achaval Ferrer, a position that places him in direct contact with the house style and its daily execution. Over time, that role has depended on repetition, judgment, and attention to small shifts that can affect the finished wine.

The Work Today

Climate sits at the center of Rearte’s method. He treats it as a working condition that reaches through the vineyard, harvest, and cellar, rather than as background. In that view, each vintage is a response to what the season brings, and each decision is part of keeping the chain between fruit and wine intact. At Achaval Ferrer, that means reading the year closely and making the house’s wines from within its limits.

Gustavo's signature wines include Finca Bella Vista and Finca Altamira Cosecha 2021. These names sit at the heart of his work, representing the clarity and consistency associated with his approach.
