i. Biography
From a five-generation Bolgheri family farm to hosting guests at Agriturismo Ceralti in Castagneto Carducci, Italy, Iacopo Alfeo’s path runs through vines, olive trees, animals, and bottles marked by the Bolgheri name. The arc is agricultural before it is commercial: a mixed farm becomes a wine estate, a family inheritance becomes daily work, and the welcome at the agriturismo sits beside nearly 11 organic hectares between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri.
Early Years
Bolgheri is the starting point. Alfeo’s family has lived there for five generations, giving his work a local continuity that predates the first labeled wine and still shapes the farm’s scale, crops, and guest-facing rhythm. The family farm began as a mixed holding: grapevines, fruit trees, and olive trees grew alongside the raising of animals. That broader agricultural base matters to the Ceralti story because the estate did not begin only as a bottle project; it grew out of a working farm in Bolgheri, Italy. A defining turn came with the 1997 vintage, when the estate produced its first Bolgheri Rosso. From that point, the farm’s identity could be read not only in fields and trees, but in a denomination that would become central to its offer.
Making a Name
The wines now move through a clear Bolgheri frame. Ceralti’s offer is centered on Bolgheri denomination labels: Bolgheri Rosso “Scirè,” Bolgheri Superiore “Alfeo,” Bolgheri Superiore “Sonoro,” and Bolgheri Vermentino. Within that range, DOC Bolgheri Rosso Scirè 2023 gives a precise view of Alfeo’s work in the cellar and vineyard. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the wine reached 30,000 bottles produced, a signature work tied to both the estate’s red-wine identity and its Bolgheri designation. Its making is specific rather than showy: Scirè 2023 is fermented in concrete, then aged in wood for 6–7 months, where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. The process places concrete, wood, and time in a sequence that supports the wine’s final shape without detaching it from the farm. The wider vineyard picture is equally varied. Across the nearly 11 organic hectares, Alfeo works with parcels between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese, Vermentino, Viognier, Incrocio Manzoni, and Gewürztraminer.
The Present
Today, the primary public role is hospitality: Alfeo is host at Agriturismo Ceralti in Castagneto Carducci, Italy. That role places the guest experience next to the agricultural one, with the agriturismo connected to the same territory that carries the family history and the estate’s wine work. He is also owner of Azienda Agricola Ceralti in Bolgheri, Italy. In that capacity, the present-day estate joins several strands: a five-generation family presence, an organic vineyard footprint, a Bolgheri-focused label range, and a farm identity that began before the first Rosso was bottled. Ceralti is also listed among the Consortium Members of the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Bolgheri and DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia Wines. For an estate built around Bolgheri Rosso, Bolgheri Superiore, and Bolgheri Vermentino, that membership places the work within the formal structure protecting the denomination.
