The Path

Managing a distillery means living with the practical realities of production, scale, and market pressure, and Jack Teeling was in that position as Managing Director at Cooley Distillery in Cooley, County Louth until 2011. Since 2012, he has held the dual roles of founder and Managing Director and co-founder and Chief Executive of Teeling Whiskey Company. The line between those posts is less a break than a steady build: responsibility accumulated over time, with the emphasis staying on continuity, direction, and long-term purpose.

The Work Today

The house line is explicit about the method: "Our mantra is to be respectful to the history of Irish and Teeling whiskey but to be confident enough to be the drivers of the future of the category." For the trade, that sets out a clear working position — heritage is not treated as a constraint, but as a material to be worked with. That same thinking is sharpened in the other formulation, "Innovation and tradition don’t have to clash." In Jack Teeling’s approach, those two terms are kept in active balance rather than forced into opposition.
