From 2010, Jean Christophe Meyrou worked as managing director at Château Fonplegade and Château L’Enclos in St. Emilion and Pomerol, where the job combined estate oversight with the more exacting business of drawing a site’s character into the bottle. Since 2014, as head winemaker and owner of Château Le Rey, the focus has been even more fixed on the vineyard, and on the sequence of decisions that keeps fruit, soil, and season visible in the finished wine.

He also serves as general manager of Vignobles K. At Le Rey, that wider responsibility still leaves room for the practical choices that start in the vines and continue through blending and aging, where a wine can be tightened, rounded, or left to show more of itself. His language around that property is direct: “We decided to focus on the notion of terroir.” At Le Rey, that idea is carried by the two main cuvées, shaped only by the nature of the terroir: blue clay and limestone. The point is not ornament. It is the structure of the wines, and the basis of how they are defined. Another line from Meyrou keeps the human side of that technical work in view: “I strongly believe in the human factor.” In his career, that sits alongside concrete cellar choices, from lower new-oak use at Fonplegade to the use of cement vats for selected blended parcels. These are practical decisions, made to clarify texture, protect nuance, and keep attention on character, balance, and place.
