i. Biography
That title belongs to a front-of-house career built through hospitality leadership and partnership roles, including General Manager and partner at Crown Shy and current ownership and business partnership work.
The Climb
Restaurant leadership is learned through repetition: service standards, staffing judgment, financial discipline, and the ability to keep a room steady. Early in his career, Jeff Katz worked as a General Manager, developing the poise and precision that would define his ascent. He later became Managing Partner at Del Posto in New York from 2006, then General Manager and partner at Crown Shy in Financial District, New York from 2019, and co-owner at Al Coro until 2023. Current ownership keeps the work in the operator’s register. Today, Jeff is co-owner of Mel's, co-owner of Discolo, and business partner of Crane Club.
Today
Current work has three names. The craft note is specific: his career has been built around partnership, general management, co-ownership and business partnership, rather than a single short-term post.
In Their Words “I stayed. I often see a resume and someone’s worked at four of New York City’s best restaurants in the last three years: Why haven’t they stayed at any? To me, that’s more of a red flag than anything.”
Recognition
Recognition, for Katz, reads through seniority and continuity.
