Early credits in a Twin Cities television office and on Andrew Zimmern’s shows put Jesse Roesler inside the pace of food media before he moved into directing. That background shows in the way *The Starfish Throwers* (2014) is positioned in his body of work: as a directing credit that sharpened his focus on food systems and the people around them. By 2020–2020, *The Wild Harvest* extended that same line of inquiry, keeping attention on production, tradition, and identity. As executive producer of *America the Bountiful*, Jesse continues working in a format that gives those themes broader reach.

Today

The work is framed by a clear editorial aim. “We wanted to tell food stories that seemed to be getting overlooked in the current media landscape,” Jesse Roesler has said, naming a practice built on attention rather than spectacle. The questions he keeps returning to are straightforward and structural: “Where does our food come from?” and “Why do certain foods come from certain parts of the country?” Those questions push the subject outward, from ingredient to region and from region to the cultural habits that sustain it. That geography is also personal. “It started with cheese in Wisconsin, that’s where I live, where I’m from,” Jesse Roesler says, tying the work to place without turning it into mythology. In that framing, food is not abstract content; it is tied to the local conditions, memory, and labor that give it meaning.
