Jessica B. Harris

Jessica B. Harris is an American culinary historian, professor emerita at Queens College/CUNY, and author, editor, or translator of 17 to 18 books focused on African diaspora foodways, including High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America. Her work has been recognized with James Beard Foundation honors, including the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award, and High on the Hog was adapted into a Netflix docuseries. She taught at Queens College for five decades, has written extensively on African, Caribbean, and American food traditions, and has served as culinary consultant for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and Sweet Home Café.
