Technical training at University of California, Davis gave Jim Duane a framework for the precision that later defined his winemaking. That academic base carried into his time as winemaker at Seavey Vineyard, where theory had to answer to production, timing, and judgment. The same duality shows up in his current work as host of Inside Winemaking and winemaker of Terratorium Wines: one role builds wine, the other explains how the work is done.

Today

Since 2011, Jim Duane has led winemaking at the St. Helena estate, a position that ties his work to the pace and practical demands of Napa Valley. Since 2014, he has hosted the Inside Winemaking podcast, bringing the same working vocabulary into conversation and making cellar decisions legible to a broader audience. The two roles point to a career shaped by both doing the work and describing it clearly.

Signature

Jim's signature wines include 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018 Caravina Cabernet, and 2020 Chardonnay. The range is broad, but the throughline is discipline: wines made with attention to balance, expression, and the expectations that come with Napa Valley.
