Pintão’s name is tied to a specific expansion of the house’s work: he created the line of Poças Douro table wines, beginning with Coroa d’Ouro red. That first wine gives the achievement a concrete marker, a bottle rather than a slogan, and it remains the clearest signature work attached to his career.

The Work

Behind It The craft begins in the cellar’s exacting disciplines. Chemistry gives the work its analytical structure; oenology gives it its applied language. Together, they define a winemaker concerned not only with style but with control, consistency, and the measurable qualities that carry a wine from conception to release. His own description of the challenge connects the technical with the personal: "From my childhood I accompanied my father on his trips to the Douro. The vintage was an especially magic time for me. One of my greatest challenges was to create the line of Poças Douro table wines, beginning with Coroa d’Ouro red." That sentence sets the work in motion: childhood journeys to the Douro, the intensity of vintage, and the later task of building a table-wine line for the house. The most important detail is not decorative; it is operational. The Coroa d’Ouro red became the beginning point of a broader Douro project under his hand.

The Road Pintão studied at the Institut d’Oenologie de Bordeaux, a training ground cited for the discipline it signals: oenology pursued formally, with technical seriousness. That education sits naturally beside his specialty in chemistry, a combination suited to the precision required in winemaking and quality oversight. In 1986, he was a winemaker at Poças. The date gives scale to the career: his current leadership of the Winemaking and Quality team grew from a long association with the same producer, rather than from a passing appointment. Peso da Régua also counts. The city places the work within the Douro’s wine geography, and his childhood memories of trips with his father add an earlier layer to that connection. The career reads as a movement from family experience to formal study to sustained cellar responsibility.
