Paso Robles has been the constant in Josh Beckett’s work, and that kind of continuity shows in the wine itself. Beckett has been winemaker at Chronic Cellars in Paso Robles since 2019, and before that he served as Head Winemaker at Peachy Canyon Winery in Paso Robles, CA. Those roles sit inside the same town and the same family winery where he grew up, so the line from one step to the next is unusually direct: local knowledge, carried forward through repeated responsibility. That continuity also reads as operational fluency. Beckett’s path has moved beyond cellar work into the larger frame around a winery — the day-to-day decisions, the pace of production, the structure needed to keep the place moving. The throughline is practical rather than theatrical: stay close to the details, understand the system, and take on more of the work that shapes how the wines are made and delivered. Since 2019, Josh has also been co-owner and director of operations of Peachy Canyon Winery, where the job folds oversight into familiarity. The role depends on knowing the place from the inside, and that matters when direction and maintenance are part of the same discipline. It is a form of stewardship built on long acquaintance rather than distance.

Where They Are Now

At Chronic Cellars, Beckett’s language stays clipped and functional, which fits a winemaker working from observation rather than rhetoric. The emphasis is on assessment: what is working, what is not, and what needs to be adjusted. “We wanted to see what was going on. What was working? What wasn’t working?” Those questions point to a method that starts with diagnosis before moving to action.

Signature

Josh's signature wines include Para Siempre, 2011 Devine Cab, and 2011 Old School House Cabernet. The group maps a few different registers of the same working sensibility: name-driven bottlings with structure, identity, and clear intent.
