The Path

Training in Loire Valley's Sancerre appellation gave Scott a base in one of the world’s established wine regions. That matters less as romance than as technical grounding: structure, place, and the slow build of judgement tend to stay with a maker long after the first apprenticeship is over. In 2003, he moved into brewing as founder at Moa Brewing Company, carrying a winemaker’s attention to process into another form of fermentation. Read together, those roles show continuity rather than range for its own sake: a maker moving between related disciplines while keeping production at the center. Today, Josh Scott is co-owner and winemaker of Allan Scott, bringing that breadth back to the family label and the daily demands of the cellar.

The Work Today

At Allan Scott Family Winemakers, Scott holds the co-owner and manager roles in tandem, which places stewardship and oversight in the same hands. One title speaks to long-term responsibility; the other to the day-to-day coordination that keeps a winery functioning on pace. That combination keeps the business side close to the craft side, so decisions stay tied to the realities of the cellar rather than drifting into abstraction. In Marlborough, that means working with the rhythm of the season, the pace of production, and the standards carried through each stage of the process.

Signature

Scott’s signature wines include Allan Scott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc, and Scott Base Sauvignon Blanc. Taken together, they map a consistent line of work centered on Marlborough’s familiar expression and the continuity of a family name. The labels themselves mark the span of his winemaking identity: region, house style, and an ongoing body of production.
