Juanito Bayén

Joan Bayén, known as Juanito, was the longtime proprietor and face of Bar Pinotxo in Barcelona’s La Boqueria market, where he worked for more than 60 years and became one of the market’s most recognizable figures. He was born in Barcelona in 1934, grew up in El Raval, and began helping at the bar with his mother Catalina when he was a child. He received Barcelona’s City Award for Gastronomy in 2015 for his work promoting Catalan food, and he later became associated with a book about the bar and his legacy.
