    Portrait of Kevin Mangeolles

    i. Biography

Kevin Mangeolles arrived on the Norfolk coast with classical training in hand and a clear respect for traditional flavour combinations. In August 2007, Kevin Mangeolles and Jacki Mangeolles moved to Norfolk to open The Neptune Restaurant with Rooms, and the kitchen took shape around local produce, good ingredients, and cooking that is left to do its work without dressing itself up.

    The Path

The first marker in Kevin Mangeolles’s career was the chef role at The George Hotel in Isle of Wight, where the base of his practice was set. The through-line from there is consistency: skill built methodically, discipline applied without noise, and a style that does not rely on constant reinvention. Today, Kevin is chef patron of The Neptune, a title that reads as stewardship as much as responsibility.

    The Work Today

He is chef patron at The Neptune in Old Hunstanton, Norfolk, a role he has held since 2007. The cooking there is built from a compact set of ideas: rustic fare shaped by local ingredients, modern British seasoning, and European influences handled with restraint. Kevin is classically trained, works with traditional flavour combinations, and is not trying to reinvent the wheel or make everything Instagram-pretty. That restraint gives the kitchen its line. Good ingredients and local produce set the terms, while seasonal clarity matters more than flourish. The approach depends on judgement: knowing when to season, when to step back, and when the product already carries the plate. It is cooking from a chef who understands that precision can do more than embellishment.

    Signature

Kevin's signature dishes include Crab custard with pink grapefruit, White Chocolate Bomb, Neptune Dessert, Salmon, and Cinnamon doughnuts and chocolate sauce.

In Their Words “We try to use as much local produce as we can and try to offer people good food.” “I guess I’d say I’m a British chef doing European cuisine.”

    Acclaim

Kevin Mangeolles has received MICHELIN Guide: Michelin star (2009). The restaurant earned a Michelin star in 2009, following the move to Norfolk, and the timing matches the kitchen’s stated priorities: discipline, purpose, and a clear point of view. It also holds 3 AA rosettes, recognition that sits naturally alongside the restaurant’s measured cooking. Together, those honours reflect a body of work built patiently at one coastal address, with one consistent idea of how to cook.
