Kristof Anderson

Kristof Anderson builds wines from the vineyard outward, treating wine as the result of place, patience, and precision. His work favors nuance over noise, balance over bravado, and structure over force, bringing agriculture, science, architecture, and cellar discipline into a single practice. Trained at University of California, Davis, he entered the trade as winemaker and protégé of consultant Nils Venge at Nils Venge consultancy, where close attention to the daily realities of winemaking helped shape a restrained sensibility that continued through his career. Anderson moved into leadership at Lewis Cellars as head winemaker, then into founding work at Gargiulo Vineyards in Oakville AVA, Napa Valley, where he served as founding winemaker until 2021. He also worked as lead winemaker at Oakville Winegrowers Cuvee in Oakville, Napa Valley AVA. These roles reflect a career that has consistently centered on setting direction, defining style, and maintaining continuity rather than chasing volume or display. His current work includes co-founder and founding winemaker of Scribe Winery in Sonoma, founding winemaker of Booth Family Vineyards, now Bella Oaks, and consulting winemaker of RAEN. At Scribe Winery, the combination of co-founder and founding winemaker captures both sides of his approach, building the estate while establishing the cellar style from the outset. The title points to practical authorship, with early decisions that continue to shape the wines. Anderson’s signature wines include PELLA Cabernet Sauvignon, SANNA Sauvignon Blanc, Oakville Winegrowers Cuvee, and Baker Lane Vineyard Syrah. Together they show range without drift, moving from Cabernet Sauvignon to Sauvignon Blanc to cuvee and Syrah while remaining grounded in the same disciplined approach. SANNA Sauvignon Blanc is among his noted signature works, and PELLA Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the wines he has highlighted as especially meaningful in his career. His recognition includes Best Wine citations in Karen MacNeil’s The Wine Bible, 2nd Edition and a Great Sonoma Wines citation for Baker Lane Vineyard Syrah. These acknowledgments reflect a body of work associated with exacting vineyard attention, restraint, and consistency.
