i. Biography
Lisa Fain’s work turns a specific regional appetite into a sustained editorial practice. The pull toward Tex-Mex and chicken-fried steak became the organizing logic behind Homesick Texan, where recipe writing, photography, and voice are used together rather than treated as separate lanes. The result is a body of work built from taste, memory, and a clear point of view.
The Climb
At Austin College, Lisa Fain built the base for a career that would later combine food, story, and image. That mix shows up in the way she works: she writes with attention to detail, frames dishes with an eye for context, and keeps the narrative of a recipe in view. In 2015–2015, she brought those skills to El Original in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, as a menu writer and kitchen staff trainer, a role that asked for both exact language and practical kitchen sense. Homesick Texan has remained the constant through that work. Since 2005, Lisa Fain has been the blogger, writer, and photographer behind the site, using it as a place to develop recipes, build a voice, and document a regional food vocabulary. What started as a search for familiar Texas flavors became an ongoing platform with its own editorial shape.
Today
Homesick Texan is still the center of Lisa Fain’s output. As blogger, writer, and photographer, she keeps the work focused on Texas foodways and the forms that support them: recipe development, written context, and images that do the same informational work as the text. The consistency of the site is part of its strength.
