The Climb

Training at Elsenburg College is the formal base behind Louis Strydom’s work in Stellenbosch, where his first post was as a team member at Saxenburg Wine Estate. From there, he moved into winemaking at Rust en Vrede Wine Estate, serving as winemaker from 1998–2004 before taking on later leadership at the Cape Winemakers Guild as chairperson. The same progression now runs through his current roles: winemaker at Ernie Els Wines since 2004, chairman of the CWG Development Trust, trustee of Wine Training South Africa, and director of Vititec. In each case, the work sits at the level of production, oversight, or industry support rather than a single cellar title.

Today

Since 2004, Louis Strydom has held the combined role of winemaker and Managing Director at Ernie Els Wines. That continuity matters in a cellar: one hand can keep both the wine style and the business direction aligned over time.
