i. Biography
The Climb
Training at University of California, Berkeley was followed by hands-on work in food and wine: Lulu Handley spent time as a staff member at Chez Panisse and later as a harvest intern in Galicia, Spain. By 2016, that path had brought her into the proprietor role at Handley Cellars.
Today
At Handley Cellars, the work is tied to place as much as production. Lulu Handley describes the winery as part of daily community life, where staff families move through the property comfortably and the site carries continuity from her own upbringing.
Signature
Handley Cellars and Maker 2020 both carry Lulu Handley’s name on Pinot Noir: Maker 2020 Lulu Handley Pinot Noir and Handley Cellars - Lulu Handley Anderson Valley Pinot Noir.
In Their Words “I would like to see more recognition of wine as an agricultural product; how it is based on nature’s cycles and moods. And how much of the beauty of wine is based on the hard work of the vineyard workers.”
