Wine training and vintage work run in parallel here. University of Western Australia and University of Adelaide gave Nic Peterkin the formal grounding, but the trade was shaped in the seasonals: Pierro in Margaret River, Herdade do Esporão in Portugal, Casa Madero in Parras Valley, Mexico, Truchard in Texas, United States, and London Cru in London, United Kingdom. Six years spent moving between study, travel, vineyard and winery is a formation built on repetition, timing, and the practical realities of harvest. It is temporary, physical, and exacting, and it asks for quick judgment under pressure. Peterkin’s path reads as accumulated experience rather than a straight ladder: each stop adding a different place, season, and working rhythm to the last. The result is a winemaker shaped by multiple sites, not one fixed model. Today, founder and winemaker of L.A.S. Vino since 2013 is the role Nic Peterkin holds in Margaret River. The significance is in both parts of the title: building the project and then carrying the day-to-day decisions that keep it moving. Returning to Margaret River also closes the loop on one of the places that first appears in the vintage list, while keeping the work rooted in the practical business of making wine.

Winemaking at L.A.S. Vino in Margaret River is now the center of Nic Peterkin’s working life. His own words make the shift plain: “It was pretty transformative. I went from wine being this thing that I did to make money to travel to wine being my life.” The line marks a change in how the trade sits in the frame: first as a means to movement, then as the work that gives that movement shape. What follows from that change is less a dramatic conversion than a settling-in. The vineyard and winery stop being the background to everything else and become the reason to return, season after season. For Peterkin, the shift was not just about a job title; it was about where the work sat in the order of things.
