Nicolás Catena

Nicolás Catena Zapata is an Argentine wine executive and economist who took charge of his family’s winery business in 1963 and helped transform Catena Zapata into a leading producer of premium Argentine wine. He has been credited with elevating Malbec and high-altitude viticulture in Mendoza, and with helping bring Argentine wine into the global fine-wine market. He has also served as a professor of agricultural economics at the University of California, Berkeley, and was recognized with major international wine-industry honors including Wine Spectator’s Distinguished Service Award and Decanter Man of the Year.
