Patricio Celedon's work is built around continuity: reading vineyard conditions, cellar conditions, and vintage variation closely, then making decisions that hold a house line without flattening character. Since 2010, he has been Chief Winemaker at Viña Viu Manent, and since 2018 he has also served as Manager of Enology and Operations at Viña Viu Manent S.A. The two roles point to the same discipline from different angles: one in the wine itself, the other in the systems that keep production consistent.
The Climb
Technical formation comes first in Celedon’s path. He studied at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, then entered the trade at Viña Terramater as enologo from 2004–2006. He followed that with enologo líneas reserva y premium at CCU from 2006–2010, a run that broadened his range across styles and sharpened the kind of palate judgment that accumulates through repetition.
Today
At Viu Manent, Celedon works in a register of clarity and restraint. Since 2010, his chief winemaking role has centered on decisions that favor structure and balance over display. When he took on Manager of Enology and Operations in 2018, that remit widened to include the practical management that keeps cellar work aligned with production. His own words show a winemaker thinking in style, not slogan. “My idea was to make a fortified wine that was fruitier and less evolved, more in a vintage style than tawny.” The distinction is technical and direct: fruit profile, degree of development, and the target expression of the final wine. That same attention to origin and contrast appears in the limited-edition work behind Tiny Trials. “We have been working on a new line of limited edition wines called “Tiny Trials” that come from two amazing places, separated by more than 300 kilometers in a straight line, but sharing the same ancient granite soil.” The focus stays on place, distance, and shared geology, with experimentation used as a method rather than a talking point.
