The Work Today

Today, the central work remains winemaking at the Vienna winery that carries his name. Christ’s cellar philosophy is stated plainly in his own words: "In the cellar, gravity is key. A CHRIST does not pump wine." It is a technical rule, but also a standard for the work itself: less intervention, more control, and a clear preference for precision over force. Place is handled with the same exactness in the wines. Of a Viennese specialty from Bisamberg, he has said, "This Viennese specialty from Bisamberg combines cool fruitiness, elegance, and freshness in an ideal way." The line ties style to site, with the geography of Bisamberg carrying as much weight as the descriptors themselves. One fixed point in the range is the 2008 WIENER Chardonnay Grand Select. It gives the work a dated reference, with grape, vintage, and Viennese marker held together in a single named bottle.

His own words about WienWein after its 2006 founding point to growth with purpose, not growth for its own sake.
