Rosie Menzies trained at Lincoln University, Massey University, and completed a Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology, Lincoln. That mix of study gives the work a technical base, but the emphasis remains practical: reading a vineyard closely, season after season, and understanding how fruit reflects the conditions around it.

Where They Are Now

Rosie Menzies is winemaker at Carrick Wines in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand. The current approach is explicit about stewardship: “We are guardians of our land and look to continuous improvement of our soils and site through organic management, developing biodiversity and looking after the people who look after our site.” At Carrick, the job is not just to make wine, but to keep the site healthy enough that its character comes through plainly. That same thinking governs the finished wines. “Wine is our expression of our place; we, therefore, pursue a path where this can be best reflected.” The aim is not style for its own sake, but a bottle that carries landscape, climate, and the decisions made in vineyard and winery. At the moment, she is enjoying Carrick’s 2017 Electric No.1—a field blend of all of the white varieties of Carrick. It reads as a snapshot of the estate: bound to the vineyard, and built to show what the site can give.

Rosie's signature wines include Carrick's 2017 Electric No.1, Carrick Riesling, Carrick Josephine Riesling, and Carrick Chardonnay. Taken together, they point to a cellar focused on precision, site response, and clarity of origin.
