The brewing practice associated with Shaun Hill is built on repeated assessment: method, creativity, and the consequences of production are treated as part of the same work. The Climb
Brewing education in this case included formal study at Haverford College and early professional cellar and brewhouse work in Vermont. At The Shed, Shaun Hill worked as a brewer in a setting that grounded his later approach in repetition, detail, and the practical demands of production brewing. European brewhouse experience added another register to that foundation. Work at Fanø Bryghus and Nørrebro Bryghus in Denmark gave Shaun Hill additional exposure to brewing practice outside the United States before he founded Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro Bend, Vermont, in 2010. The brewery became the place where he worked as founder, owner, and brewer, developing beers that drew international attention while remaining tied to site and process.
The Current Work
Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro Bend, Vermont, remains the center of the work. As owner and brewer, Shaun Hill’s production is framed by sustainability and by a brewing philosophy that connects beer, place, and history without treating those elements as decoration. The use of New Zealand hops and the development of mixed-culture saisons are part of the brewery’s recognized vocabulary. Scale has not removed the homebrewing reference point from the work. Shaun Hill has compared the current practice to brewing at home on a much larger scale, which is a useful way to read the beers: controlled production, but with batch-level attention still treated as central.

Accolades
Recognition arrived early in the brewery’s public life. In 2011, Shaun Hill was honored with the title of Best New Brewery in the World, an award that placed Hill Farmstead Brewery in an international brewing conversation soon after its 2010 founding.
