Today, Vassilis Papagiannakos is winemaker of Domaine Papagiannakos and wine producer of Papagiannakos Winery. The guiding principle is discipline: take what the land gives, and do not crowd it.

The Work Today

Today, Papagiannakos works as wine producer at the Markopoulo winery that carries his family name, where the family identity is part of the estate’s texture and purpose. His own description of the work is direct: “With immense respect to the environment and to our ancestors, we produce limited quanities of quality wine that reveal the potential of our terroir and the beauty of our wine region.” The point is clear enough for the trade: limitation is not absence, quality is made through care, and terroir is something to be revealed rather than overridden. That same view reaches into the estate itself. For Papagiannakos, architecture belongs to the same logic as wine, because both have to answer to the site. “It took me almost 2 years to find the architect,” he has said. “I wanted to incorporate the building into the surroundings, adapted to the environment.” In that framing, the winery is not treated as a separate object but as part of the ground it stands on.

Signature

Vassilis's signature wines include Savatiano Old Vines, Assyrtiko Papagiannakos, Granatus, Vareli, and Naturally Savatiano. Read together, they point to a cellar shaped by origin and restraint: wines made to carry the character of the region without masking it.
