i. Biography
Victor Jules Bergeron Jr. (1902–1984), known as Trader Vic, founded the Polynesian-themed Trader Vic’s restaurant chain after opening Hinky Dink’s in Oakland in 1934. He expanded the concept into an international hospitality brand and is widely credited with creating the Mai Tai at Trader Vic’s. He also published books and developed merchandise lines connected to the Trader Vic’s brand.
