The small-lot work sits under Glenn Hugo, winemaker at B.R. Cohn Winery in Glen Ellen, where Sonoma Valley fruit moves through a program he first knew as a consultant. Glenn Hugo worked with the property from 2004–2010 before taking the winemaker role in 2018, a return that matters because the craft here asks for continuity: estate bottlings, vineyard-designated wines, and the wider reach of the Silver Label range need different kinds of attention without losing the house line. Hugo trained at Provenance Vineyards, then learned the pressure of service as General Manager at Bounty Hunter Wine Bar in Downtown Napa before moving into production in 2003 as a Harvest Intern at Girard Winery. The cellar became the center from there, with time as Cellar Master and Assistant Winemaker at Girard, and his work now still runs on that overlap of hospitality, harvest, and cellar judgment. At B.R. Cohn, the station is not a single bench so much as a set of repeated decisions across Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel. The role asks him to hold estate expression, regional clarity, and accessible bottlings in one hand.

Cabernet, Chardonnay, and the Silver Label line

The program is built around still red, still white, and still rosé wines from Sonoma Valley, with a small-lot philosophy and a sustainable frame. Hugo’s signature work here includes OLIVE HILL ESTATE Cabernet Sauvignon, SONOMA SERIES Cabernet Sauvignon, Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon, Silver Label Pinot Noir, and Silver Label Chardonnay. Those names give the clearest map of the cellar: Cabernet as a through-line, Chardonnay as part of the broader white program, Pinot Noir within the Silver Label range, and estate work kept close enough to carry its own designation. The house also works in olive oil, drawn from 150-year-old Picholine trees, so the agricultural rhythm of the property is not only vine row and tank. The tasting room can pour wine beside oil without making either feel like an accessory. For Hugo, that means the cellar’s discipline meets a place where guests encounter texture, aroma, and fruit in more than one form. The method stays legible because the categories are legible: estate, Sonoma Series, Silver Label.

Between Sonoma Mountain and Mayacamas

The room opens toward vineyard views, olive groves, gardens, and the hillsides between Sonoma Mountain and the Mayacamas range. It is a quiet setting, laid back rather than staged, with the kind of hospitality that lets the work remain close to the glass. The property carries another layer, too: Bruce Cohn’s Doobie Brothers years remain present through rock and roll memorabilia, set against barrels, bottles, and the slower agricultural time outside. That contrast could become theater in the wrong hands. Here it reads more like residue, a founder’s past left in the room while Hugo’s current work stays in the cellar. The counter, the tasting room, and the view all point back to the same materials: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, olive oil, and the Picholine trees.
