Wine work here moves across hospitality, harvest, and cellar, and Glenn Hugo was trained for that overlap at Provenance Vineyards. He then moved into the front-of-house pressure of wine country service as General Manager at Bounty Hunter Wine Bar in Downtown Napa, California, before shifting into production in 2003 as a Harvest Intern at Girard Winery in Napa Valley, California. From there, the cellar became the center of the job: Cellar Master at Girard Winery in Napa Valley, California, then Assistant Winemaker at Girard Winery in Napa Valley, California. From 2004–2010, Hugo also worked as Winemaking Consultant at B.R. Cohn Winery in Sonoma Valley, California. That kind of parallel responsibility points to a career built on continuity, not sidestep promotions: one place, then another, with enough time in each to understand the vineyards, the cellar, and the people around the work. Today, he is winemaker of Girard Winery since 2010 and winemaker of B.R. Cohn Winery since 2018.

Since 2018, winemaking at B.R. Cohn Winery in Glen Ellen, in Sonoma Valley, has sat under Hugo’s oversight. The job connects to an earlier relationship with the property and gives daily form to a portfolio that includes small-lot estate wines, vineyard-designated bottlings, and nationally available Silver Label wines.
