Vincent Mongeard tastes from the same Burgundian line he has worked for decades, as Winemaker at Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret in Vosne-Romanée. Vincent Mongeard spent 1975–1995 responsible for viticulture and vinification here, a span that put the vineyard and the cellar in the same pair of hands before he took complete leadership in 1995. That sequence matters in a village where decisions are read in small increments: the pick, the sorting, the way a parcel is allowed to speak without being pushed beyond itself.

The domaine’s own history reaches back to 1620, and its present scale is substantial by the standards of this part of Burgundy: 30 hectares across 35 appellations. Mongeard’s tenure sits inside that older family frame, not as ornament, but as continuity. He did not arrive at the bench after a separate career elsewhere; his working life at the house moved from practical responsibility into overall command. The method here is therefore less about signature as flourish than signature as repetition, with the same estate asking its questions vintage after vintage.

Thirty hectares, thirty-five appellations

The program rests on Pinot Noir, with Chardonnay and Aligoté also in the domaine’s work, and the centre of gravity remains Vosne-Romanée. The house names Vosne Romanée, Richebourg, Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux, and Clos Vougeot among Mongeard’s signature wines, a set of parcels that requires restraint from the cellar because the hierarchy is already written in the ground. The estate also holds Grands Échezeaux, Échezeaux, Clos de Vougeot, and Richebourg, giving the cellar a range of grand cru material to handle without flattening difference.

The stated philosophy is sustainable, and the setting gives the craft its first discipline: mid-slope vineyards, a southeast orientation, chalk and clay soils. Those facts are not background. They decide the way Pinot Noir ripens, where acidity is kept, how tannin arrives, and how much patience the cellar can afford. Mongeard’s earlier responsibility for both viticulture and vinification is important here because the two cannot be separated without losing the thread. The cut in the vineyard meets the choice in the cellar. The bottle remembers both.
