His work here sits beside a longer personal discipline. Vivier grew up in Burgundy on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, studied at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, and carried an early memory of a 1974 Domaine Gros Richebourg opened by his parents. In California, his own label narrowed its attention to Pinot Noir and Rosé of Pinot Noir in 2009, and his Sonoma Coast work has followed vineyard names closely. At Long Meadow Ranch, the role asks that same patience to meet estate farming in the Rutherford AVA.

Organic fruit from a mountain ranch

The program at Long Meadow Ranch begins with organic estate work rather than a shopping list of cellar tricks. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Chardonnay all belong to the stated range, with still red, still white and still rosé wines carrying the focus. The site matters because the ranch is not described as a single tasting-room address with vines attached. It is a rugged mountain property in the Mayacamas, high enough for valley views and broad enough to hold vineyards, gardens, meadows and a historic farmhouse in one working landscape. Vivier's own vocabulary favors touch over force.
