Arthur Ostertag

Where It Started 2015 marks the start of Arthur Ostertag's work at the domaine as vigneron in Alsace, France. From there, he began separating each vineyard and trying biodynamic farming in order to get closer to the definition of terroir. The method is plot-by-plot, not generalized across the estate, so each vineyard can be read on its own terms. That kind of sorting leaves less room for force and more room for observation, with the work turning on attention rather than imitation.

Who Shaped Them The shaping force here is the house itself and the tradition Arthur Ostertag chose to work inside. His own description of biodynamics — connecting humans, plants, and animals “in order to achieve balance” — gives the work its frame. It places the domaine at the meeting point of farming, artistic sensibility, and respect for tradition, and it keeps each decision tied to place and philosophy rather than to a single gesture.

The Work Today

The wines identified with Arthur Ostertag today are Pinot Noir Les Jardins, 2017, Riesling Les Jardins, and Gewurztraminer “Les Jardins.” They carry forward the same logic established in 2015: vineyard by vineyard attention, with terroir as the reference point. The continuity is in the method as much as in the label, with method, place, and imagination kept in the same frame.
