i. Biography
Arturo Leonar is the Mexico City-born chef and owner behind Chavela’s in Brooklyn, where he opened the restaurant’s first incarnation on Classon Avenue in 2007 and later moved it to Franklin Avenue in 2011. He is the chef leading Chavela’s, known for traditional Mexican cooking rooted in the flavors of his childhood and for inventive dishes such as smoked-trout guacamole and crab taquitos.
