The Path

Burgundy set the frame for Carel Voorhuis’s early training: Beaune and Dijon gave him the classical grounding, and the Association Technique Viticole de Bourgogne (ATVB) in Beaune added the practical register that marks his work. From there, the route widened beyond France. He worked in Australia, worked in Southwest France, and later returned to Burgundy as domaine manager / winemaker at Domaine d'Ardhuy in Côte d'Or, Burgundy (2002–2016). Across those stages, the throughline was place, repetition, and the slow accumulation of decisions that shape wine from vineyard to cellar.

The Work Today

At Maison Camille Giroud in Beaune, Carel Voorhuis succeeded David Croix, keeping the work in the same city while moving into a different house. After Domaine d'Ardhuy, the change was one of context more than geography: Beaune remained the fixed point, while the perspective shifted inside another cellar. It suits a winemaker whose career has been defined by continuity as much as range—Burgundy as base, detail as method, and patience as part of the craft.

Signature

The name points straight back to Burgundy, where specificity matters and a wine is expected to hold structure without losing detail. In relation to Voorhuis’s work, it fits a style that reads as measured rather than forceful, with attention to texture as much as fruit. His path through vineyards and cellars shows the same preference for balance: structure and finesse coming through together, not in competition.
