The Climb

At St. Edwards University, Doug Lewis laid the academic groundwork for the work that would later define Lewis Wines. Since 2013, he has served as co-founder and primary winemaker of Lewis Wines, a position that puts him squarely in the line between vineyard and glass. The throughline in that work is restraint: the best wine, in his view, listens to the vineyard instead of trying to override it. That stance has shaped a style built for depth over time, while still keeping the vineyard source and growing season legible in the bottle.

Today

At Lewis Wines, Doug Lewis continues to work from a house style organized around balance, structure, and restraint. The wines are made to age, but they are not meant to drift away from the season that formed them; fruit, site, and farming are all allowed to register without excess. That makes for a portfolio that favors patience over speed, with expression carrying more weight than ornament.

Signature

Doug's signature wines include Swim Spot, Fish Fry, 2017 Tinto Cao, 2018 Round Mountain Rosé, and 2017 Lahey Tinto Cão. Taken together, they sketch the range of his sensibility: wines that are distinctive without feeling forced, and that appear to be guided by the same commitment to vineyard character and ageability that runs through his work at Lewis Wines. Each name marks a different expression of that larger vision, shaped by season and source, and joined by a common thread of precision and intent.
