At Sheffield and RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, Dr Nick Savage built the technical base for a career that moved between craft, science, and leadership. That formation gave him practical and analytical fluency in equal measure, a useful grounding in an industry where small decisions can carry for decades. At Diageo, he worked as technical lead in cask maturation, then moved to The Macallan as Master Distiller. Those roles placed cask management and whisky development at the center of his practice, with maturation as the through-line. From 2019, he has been Master Distiller at Bladnoch Distillery. The move brought that experience into a distillery defined by heritage and by the ongoing work of shaping flavour over time.

Today

At Bladnoch Distillery, Dr Nick Savage’s primary role is Master Distiller. The work centers on single malt Scotch whisky, with cask maturation remaining the clearest thread from his earlier technical role through his current craft. His language around the Waterfall Collection stays with development over time rather than a fixed point of arrival. That emphasis reflects how the work functions in practice: a whisky is not simply made and released, but observed, guided, and allowed to deepen. At Bladnoch, the material is not only spirit in cask, but the decisions made as it moves through maturation: when to wait, when to read change, and how to present a whisky whose character is still being shaped by time. The distillery becomes a place of careful listening, where quality is pursued through restraint as much as intervention.
