i. Biography
Florence Cathiard is the co-owner and president of Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Martillac, Pessac-Léognan, which she and Daniel Cathiard acquired in 1990 and later restored through a major renovation of the estate. Official winery materials state that she and Daniel came to live on the property after three years of renovations and have overseen winemaking and the estate’s development since then. Reporting on the estate also identifies her as a former high-level French alpine ski athlete and notes that she later helped build GO Sport and worked in advertising before moving into wine.
