Since 2005, Friedrich Wilhelm Becker has been owner and winemaker at Weingut Friedrich Becker in Schweigen-Rechtenbach, where the house style is built around Pinot varieties. The work is framed by his own plainspoken rule: “Making wine is and remains a matter of instinct. Experience is good support. And tradition beats every trend.” That is the estate’s method as much as its message: place first, fashion last.

Where They Are Now

At the estate today, the year is turned into wines that track Schweigen’s conditions with precision rather than noise. Pinot Noir Schweigener Heydenreich Grosses Gewächs, 2019, and Kammerberg GG are among the names that mark the current cellar, each one carrying the directness of a winemaker working close to site and variety. The position is stated without ornament: “We are a winery specialized in the Pinot varieties because we have the perfect soil for Pinot varieties here in Schweigen.”

Signature

The signature wines stay inside the Pinot register: Pinot Noir Schweigener Heydenreich Grosses Gewächs, Pinot Noir 'Schweigen', Pinot Noir 2019, and Kammerberg GG. Together they show a cellar that works by variation within a defined frame, using the same grape family to draw out different expressions of site. The focus is not on novelty but on tightening the language of Pinot until it reads clearly as Weingut Friedrich Becker and clearly as Schweigen-Rechtenbach.
