i. Biography
Germán Bruzzone works the cellar at Bodega Garzón in Maldonado, Uruguay, with a practice shaped less by school than by house knowledge. “I grew up in a family dedicated to wine production,” he says, and that inheritance frames the way he approaches the work: wine as something learned through repetition, passed down, and sharpened in use.
Coming Up
The early years were spent inside the family operation, where the work itself set the pace. Germán Bruzzone led the family winery at Family winery (2001–2009), while also working with his brother-in-law at Spinoglio winery at Spinoglio winery (until 2009). Those roles built a practical base: daily production, shared responsibility, and the discipline of making decisions in real time. Since 2009, he has been the lead winemaker at Bodega Garzón, overseeing the day-to-day vinification and shaping the house style through consistency and precision.
Where They Are Now
At Bodega Garzón in Maldonado, Uruguay, the cellar work is organized around restraint. The wines are made with minimal intervention, moderate oak, and an emphasis on elegance rather than force. Fermentations take place primarily in stainless steel and concrete, a choice that keeps varietal character and place in view. Under that approach, the goal is clarity: to let the wine register cleanly, without excess handling.
Signature
Germán's signature wines include Balasto, Petit Clos Tannat, Garzón Albariño Reserva, and Tannat Garzon Single Vineyard 2018. Read together, they show the range of his cellar work: wines that move between structure and lift, and between regional identity and measured refinement.
In Their Words “The terroir together with the ocean, new techniques and Alberto Antonini as our wise leader, allowed us to produce the wines we offer today.” “This is part of my DNA.” Those lines point to the framework behind the work: place, method, and family held together in one practice. For Bruzzone, wine is not separate from daily life; it is part of the same continuity that runs from home to cellar to bottle.
